Zen Music: meditative sounds to take your soul home.
This is a sibling page of Instrumental Poetry
I've put a trio (Jazz Radio, Classical Radio, and Zen Radio) on the front page. I enjoy these. Their music art pieces are pretty and fun to look at, too.
Here I will be posting meditative music I've met, which will make our minds wander in openness and infinity.
The first video below is what I've come across in a yoga lesson video. I noticed myself paying more attention to the BGM than the instructor's moves, propelling me to search the internet tool that helped me identify the song. Soon I found an application called Shazam (available as a Chrome extension for PC, for phones, as an app). It hesitated for a moment during the initial play of the BGM on the browser, but in a matter of a minute or so, it delivered the goods.
Listening to this music, I see an endless horizon wrapping the rocky earth mercifully, where it looks like a scenery of another planet. The color is a mix of light blue and yellow, creating twilight together. The background image is an image sample of what I visualize; it's not entirely the same , but pretty close.
Do you see anything in your mind? Whatever you may see, that must be something that will set you free, reminding you of peacefulness, which is a definition of beauty.
The next song I'm posting is from the Carpenters, called Heather, which was once named "Autumn Reverie" and for whatever reason was used for a TV commercial of a vitamin supplement. Yes, reverie... I didn't know until recently that it was named as such. Written by Johnny Pearson, who led the Top of the Pops orchestra for sixteen years.
In a video of this song available on the internet, a fan used the images of happy Karen, with little sign of her tragic end that awaited. It is very saddening to know that all she gained as a diva couldn't seem to have filled the void she had been feeling with the absence of her mom's affection. Her mother claimed to have reminded the public during an interview that she did not kill her daughter (by being cold to her)...why so stubborn? Yet we all know that you can't really force anyone to love...
Maybe all she needed was a little bit of everything nearby, not something that convincingly glitters afar. I wonder the glory was ever real to her, since she looked like she'd not been too driven by it, as someone who wasn't comfortable with all that attention. Could it be that through the pains of life she was just dreaming and wanted to be awakened?
For those of you who are not familiar with her life story, this is a good guide: Karen Carpenter: all she needed was love (The Downey Patriot (2013) Last retrieved Oct 2023). It is heartbreaking to learn from this article that a song she was attached to is"I Need to be in Love" and the lyrics that summed up her life could be "Goodbye to Love". Love in these songs though, sounds like a love that comes and goes, a love to toy with to me, just like the one I discussed in my old post, not real but only exists in your head, yet most people deal with that kind and treat it like a drug. Just like saints from all over the world have said, getting rid of your lust should be the ultimate way to reach happiness and gracefulness. If you search the internet, it's not difficult to find people (not necessarily holy ones) to teach you how to stop being needy. So yeah, we should quit being a drama queen for starters. That must be it!
That said, many of us walk more or less the same path as she did, so in that sense, she was never alone. And I dedicate this page to her loving soul too, who wanted to believe in love, just like anyone else. And if I were to add one thing, I would say we care for each other because we are imperfect without others. Look at children...(Karen loved children...) they can't do so many things themselves but they need love and they deserve love. Adults are just the same, IMO. It's almost like we all need to be flawed so that we can love and live together.
Karen would have turned 33 1n 1983 when she passed away, and Steo was 33 when he left us. So, Heather music can also be a tribute to Steo? I believe so, with fond memories of him, full of smiles. I feel, this music lets us reflect on ourselves, asking us to think about what kindness is. Although I don't see autumn in there much, it is a season of maturity, so I can see how it relates to empathy.
As I looked for Boyzone instrumental music, I found "Every Day I Love You" on YT played by a young pianist from Indonesia, which struck me as a gift from heaven, and I mean it. Couldn't a happening like this be a child of imperfection (unpredictability tells me so)? You ought to love this!
His piano somehow makes me a five-year-old sitting next to the instrument, listening to the heartfelt sounds attentively with her mouth agape. The way he plays it is like storytelling as opposed to the showcase of skills (including acting) often seen in the pianists who have won awards ,titles and such, and that could be the reason why it's so touching to be surrounded by these innocent sounds flowing naturally. He has been covering many songs, so you may be able to find your favorite !
I may come back to post more Zen music. Stay calm, my friends.
